As we are discovering, virtual company is indispensable. Here’s how it may be able to help us out in April.
SUTTON HOUSE 2020 SERIES IN LONDON – OPENED UP TO EVERYWHERE
The National Trust has asked all of its houses and gardens to close for the foreseeable future, and so Sutton House in Hackney is regretfully unable to open to us for at least the first three nights (April 29, May 28 and June 25) in my scheduled Sutton House 2020 lecture series.
REPLACEMENT LECTURES ONLINE
Each of these Sutton House lectures – on Neruda in April, Ovid in May, and Pushkin in June – will be re-scheduled for live evenings there after the lockdown.
I will let you know more in the May newsletter about replacement online lectures for Ovid and Pushkin.
On April 29 I am replacing the advertised live lecture on Pablo Neruda with an online lecture on Edward Thomas. Booking is now open at https://www.grahamfawcett.co.uk/events.
If you would like to attend this lecture online, do book. I will then send out – on or before April 29 to all of you who have already booked – a link to the recording of Edward Thomas Night lecture which I will have made for you by then to ensure good video and audio quality – for as long as my technical set-up here is the same. I explain below how this also applies to my new re-recording of March 30’s Poetry Is Communication lecture.
FUTURE ONLINE EVENTS
For future online events after April, I plan to have changed my broadband server. In this way I could continue to guarantee a good quality of live picture and sound and, so, offer proper (optional) Q&As at the end of lectures, which would enable at least some participation by you the audience.
NEWS OF WEST BAY AND TAUNTON EVENTS
The on-the-ground organisers of my other scheduled April events – the excellent Anna Powell at Café Sladers in West Bay and the indomitable Lionel Ward at Brendon Books in Taunton – are preferring to postpone: so Anna Akhmatova Night in West Bay has been moved from April 23 with hope until June 19; and Shakespeare The Poet Night in Taunton from April 27 until a date in the last week of September, probably either September 28 or September 30 (to be confirmed).
MY NEW RECORDING OF MARCH 30’s POETRY IS COMMUNICATION LECTURE
If you weren’t able to be online for this lecture on March 30 and would like to see the re-recording of it which I have just made, please send your cheque or cash for £5 to me at 2 Harpur Mews, London WC1N 3PE and I will send you the links (to Part One and Part Two of the lecture) by return. No special equipment is needed.
I would be most grateful if you would then recommend Poetry Is Communication to any of your friends and contacts who you think might be glad to see the lecture. They would then book in the same way as you. It is a good opportunity for us to build a new virtual audience as well as the live one.
I hope to have your company !
All best wishes
Graham
